I'm on my way out the door to snag a few things at the local Wally World, like more butcher paper for the move so that my glasses stay nice and safe. But... I really wanted to post this.

When you work in childcare it’s really easy to feel like your being taken for granted. Like some of the parents see you as an expensive baby-sitter. Then there are the times when your stuck with the parents who tell you everything you do is wrong, who order you to have ‘bike days’ for the Summer Camp and tell you what day to do it. And don’t get me started on the parents who think we aren’t teaching their kids anything and laugh at the comments about an infant developing their creativity and self help skills.

But… I found out a few things recently and while they may come across as bragging they really brightened my day.

It’s never come as a big surprise to me that some of the parents know my Dad, after all he’s worked at Argonne for about sixteen years. Some of the parents even work in the same building as him and I had one parent of an infant go into my Dad’s office and tell him “So…I hear our kids are playing together!”

:: chuckles ::

But yesterday when Dad was helping me out with the new apartment and going over the lease he told me that he’d talked to one of my parents and this Mom told him that her daughter was not only having fun at camp but also thought the world of me. It surprised me because this particular young woman is eleven yrs old and always has the “I don’t want to be here and you can’t make me do anything” attitude. Though the comment made me very happy.

On that same day I was told by another parent that I was their child’s favorite because I knew all about bugs, dinosaurs, and loved spaceships and stuff. I also had another little girl ask me if I could go home and live with her while another girl (whose Mom works with my Dad as well) has become attached to my hip lately.

Once again I don’t mean to brag… But hey… It makes me feel really really really good to hear things like this since being in the ‘Assistant’ role it doesn’t happen very often. It helps make a day at work so much brighter.
