Okay! So y’all remember me talking about the water in the closet, the mold everywhere, the windows that don’t open, the missing screens, the water coming out of my ceiling above my shower…ect…ect…ect

See the true landlord of the building has got to be close to 100 or something…and allows his daughter (Karen) and her husband (Tom) to take care of the place for him. So I’ve been telling Tom and Karen about all these problems I’ve been having since I’ve moved in and the list just keeps getting bigger. This has been going on since about February…that’s like five months.

First it was the phone. Then the water in the closet. Then the wax seal around the toilet is broken. :: sighs ::

Anywho yesterday when I called Karen to ask her if she could have someone look at the bathroom she informed me that her husband had been out there and hadn’t seen anything wrong. First off I hadn’t known Tom was going to be coming out. Second, if nothing was wrong why was my bathroom floor soaked and the rug saturated with foul smelling water? Why was rust colored, mildew smelling, and soapy water coming out of my ceiling and into my bathtub? Not to mention the water that was clear as day on the trap in the closet.

So she said her husband would come back out today and check again. I get home this evening and the cover is off this box like thing that was on the ceiling and apparently was used to cover pipes for the upstairs unit’s drainage. There was no note and no other indication that anything had been done and I was already getting a head ache from the stench in the apartment.

When one can not open ones windows that is what happens.

So I called Karen and she tells me that its fixed and it was just a leak so basically I’ve had used water as well as the stuff that…well my Dad calls it sewage water…not only going into my bathtub but dripping on me as well when I shower. Great. I told her that the lid of this box thing was off and she said that Tom left it off so it would dry (ie the repair) and they said nothing about the wax seal or the closet.

So I called Dad. Who happens to have a detailed list of everything that is wrong with my apartment and let me tell y’all I’m very happy at this moment to have a highly educated father with a voice that can rival a ticked off Captain Picard. He immediately called Karen and after a moment she handed the phone to Tom and Dad let him have it. Whee. He was professional yet all father like and told him that these things need to be taken care off because they are sanitary issues.

The result? Tom said he’d get on it right away. Let’s see if it sticks.

Dad has called back twice since he left about thirty minutes ago. I am not to sleep in my bedroom and must sleep out in the living room on my couch. He does not want me cleaning anything in the bathroom or anything aside from my own stuff and says its Tom and Karen’s job. He also wants me to go down to Walgreen’s and get some zinc tablets because I’ve got rather weak lungs (along with problems with migraines as y’all know) and he does not want me getting sick from dealing with this stuff.

He also wants me to contact the building inspector at someone whose title started with a “C” and worked for the city…like City Coordinator or something like that. He says there is so much work that needs to be done and that Tom was basically treating me like crap and that I might be able to get several months free rent because of this entire thing.

Want to know something else? My younger sister Natalie (you know the one who disowned the family) currently has to move because her landlord will not fix anything. In fact she has gone as far as to sue and it’s gotten rather nasty. According to her if you have plumbing problems in the Chicagoland area you don’t have to pay rent. I don’t know how true this is but hey I’ve had plumbing problems for five months and have paid $2250 so far.

:: grumbles ::
