After stopping by at Lei’s to drop off a long overdue present for Eddie and then helping them with the lights I decided to drive around town a little and check out the lights that are up. I’ve got to admit that I was a little surprised at the amount of houses that were decorated already since it’s only the 2nd of December. I suppose I’m one of a minority who think holiday decorating should wait until the week of Christmas.

A lot of the houses were nice, colored lights outlined the roofs and ran along the garages making them look like rather large gingerbread houses. Some had their landscaping decorated, I love the blue lights my neighbors put on their bushes every year but I’ll never understand the appeal of those nets of lights, they look a bit tacky to me. I also like it when the skeletal branches of the trees are draped with one color of light, like red or white…very pretty.

My neighbors on one side have gone overboard with the plastic lawn figures this year. There’s a sorry looking group of Wise Men with a baby Jesus that was constantly blown around last year and a bunch of candy canes that used to light up but don’t anymore and the white has turned to yellow…those line the sidewalk leading to their front door. The neighbors on the other side have a pretty tree in their front window and I know what I’ll find when I walk in their house…homemade decorations by generations of children. Those are some of my favorite kinds of decorations.

After a bit of weaving my way around the curvy streets I decided to head on home when I was nearly blinded after turning one corner. I feel sorry for the neighbors…it was something right out of ‘Christmas Vacation’. I think I’m still seeing spots.
