A Letter from my Aunt.
Jul. 12th, 2005 08:45 amWhat does she think Autumn and I are? Stupid?! Yeah sure where going to wander around a town that we hardly know all by ourselves. :: rolls her eyes ::
Erin -
Jeff told me he e-mailed you regarding the Harry Potter book. Apparently there are not enough books on order to satisfy all of the folks that want to buy one on its release date. I don't know what else you can do to get the book. Did you reserve one at a bookstore near your home?
About your trip to downtown Indy...I hope that Carrie's father will be accompanying both of you into the city. If he isn''t I think you two should look for another bookstore in order to celebrate the release of the Harry Potter book. Here's why.....
Indiana Black Expo is going on from July 7 thru 17. It is a VERY BIG event for the African American community. It draws thousands of people from across the Midwest. Downtown Indy will be one giant mess - ESPECIALLY on the weekend of the event. There are concerts and lots of partying going on. I seriously wonder how you and your friend are going to find parking spaces considering the fact that you won't be arriving downtown until later on the day. (go to indianablackexpo.com for info on the event)
Please understand that I am NOT trying to sound like a racist, a bigot, or an "Archie Bunker" when I mentioned my concerns about you "hanging out" downtown during Black Expo. That is not the way I think or feel. What I am trying to tell you is that in order to enjoy your Harry Potter event more fully you might attempt to find another bookstore in the Indianapolis area that will also be having a release party. Downtown Indy at night - especially when there is a special event going on - can be a very crowded and intimidating environment.
Unfortunately there have been some police skirmishes in the past during Black Expo. It happens...a bunch of young kids want to have fun and party and the cops are trying to keep everyone safe. There were a lot of arrests for people jaywalking. (yes, that seems silly - but jaywalking severely inhibited the flow of traffic...cars got backed up, drivers got angry...it was a real mess) The folks attending Black Expo got pissed at the cops for the jaywalking tickets and suddenly the police force is being labeled as racist. What a mess.
So - what am I saying? That maybe for everyone involved you might consider another bookstore for the party. You said Carrie's father was a local actor here in Indy. Where does he live? Is there a bookstore near him that would be a second choice for the two of you? The decision is yours - I just want you to have a good time while you're here.
